10/05/2019: HONOLULU PCG ATTENDS THE FARRINGTON HIGH SCHOOL AND SAN NICHOLAS NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL JOINT CONCERT

PRESS RELEASE - 32 - 2019

10 May 2019 – Officials of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu led by Deputy Consul General Angelica C. Escalona attended a joint concert of Farrington High School (FHS) and San Nicolas National High School (SNNHS) on 8 May 2019 at the FHS Auditorium.

The joint concert was an offshoot of the visit to the Philippines of a team of Farrington High School faculty members headed by Principal Al Carganilla in March this year.  During the team’s visit to Ilocos Norte Province on 20-21 March 2019, they invited San Nicolas National High School to visit Hawaii as Ilocos Norte and Hawaii have a sister state relationship.

Fifteen students, parents and teachers of the SNNHS Cultural Ensemble headed by Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) Department Head Arturo Cristobal were given a tour of the Farrington High School campus on 7 May 2019.  They also had the opportunity to work together with FHS students and faculty in preparing for the concert.

The joint concert featured lively and entertaining performances from the two schools.  Farrington High School students performed a guitar rendition of a song by the Filipino rock band Rivermaya as well as the traditional Filipino dances Tinikling and Sayaw sa Bangko.  The SNNHS Cultural Ensemble’s performance featured Angklung (bamboo musical instrument), famous songs in the Ilocano language, and Dallot, a chant of entreatment where the family of a man asks a lady’s family for her hand in marriage.

The finale was a joint performance of the famous Filipino folk song Leron Leron Sinta and the Damili festival dance of San Nicolas.  (END)
