The Philippine Consulate General attended the 2019 graduation of the Language Acquisition and Immersion for the New Generation (LAING) Class of 2019 at the Filipino Community Center in Waipahu on 27 April 2019.

LAING Hawaii is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the cultural, linguistic, artistic, and literary heritage of the immigrant communities of Hawaii. It was co-founded by the PCG in 2015. This year’s class is composed of graduates of the iLAING4, the fourth Ilocano language class, and vLAing1, the first Visayan- Cebuano language class. According to Dr. Aurelio Agcaoili, the program’s Ilocano language instructor, they added a Cebuano class this year in response to requests from some students. The Cebuano language instructor was Ms. Isobel Mohimer.

LAING Hawaii classes are free and run for about five months. The language students are between the ages of 18 to 26 years old. END

Consul Roberto T. Bernardo (Leftmost) encouraged the LAING students to use Philippine languages as a way to unite in common appreciation of the culture of the Philippines.
