16/07/2018: PCG HONOLULU CELEBRATES 40th NATIONAL DISABILITY PREVENTION AND REHABILITATION WEEK

Officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu recite the Loyalty Pledge of an Advocate of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities in celebration of the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.

(16 July 2018, Honolulu, Hawaii) In celebration of the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, officers, staff and some of the consular applicants of the Philippine Consulate General, Honolulu, Hawaii, led by Acting Head of Post Roberto T. Bernardo, recited the “Loyalty Pledge of an Advocate of the Rights of the Persons with Disabilities” this morning following the flag-raising ceremony.

Over the years, the Philippine Government had exerted efforts in uplifting the economic and social welfare of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in our country. On 19 August 2000, Proclamation No. 361 was issued, declaring every third week of July as the “National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week” to raise awareness on the problems on disability, and encourage every citizen to take active responsibility in addressing these issues. By understanding the needs and capabilities of PWDs, opportunities for PWDs will be created by citizens and the government thus, making PWDs more productive, self-reliant, and empowered to participate as active citizens contributing to the betterment of society and the development of the economy.

This year’s theme is “Kakayahan at Kasanayan Para sa Kabuhayan Tungo sa Kaunlaran.” (END).
